Thunderwolves Super League Champions

Thunderwolves Super League Champions
On Thursday, March 21st, the Lakehead Orillia Men's Hockey Team competed in the Georgian Barrie Super League Championship.

This group of students have been working hard at practice since day one preparing for this final championship game. Before the game began, you could feel the intensity in the room - the team was ready to go. From the drop of the puck, the Thunderwolves took charge. They were all moving fast, moving the puck and putting pressure on the opponent shift by shift. Andrew Dobson, captain, scored the first goal. It was a tic tac toe from linemates Quinn Wilson and Ryan Rodger. Justin Ervin, rookie goaltender, stood on his head stopping all pucks coming his way but the Georgian Dynamos team was able to sneak one goal in.

It was 1-1 at the start of the third period, and spectators were at the edge of their seats. The period went on, the clock was ticking and no goals were scored. This made it look like the game was going to head into overtime. Ervin continued to keep the puck out of the net for the Thunderwolves. With less than 2 minutes to go, both teams were so eager to score. Dynamo are the defending champions, while the Thunderwolves have never won the title of Super League Champions. With seven seconds to go, Dynamo start out of their zone full force and are determined to end the game. Dobson poke checked the puck off the Dynamo rush at the Dynamo blue line.

With four seconds left, Dobson went down the right side. It was the last shot in regulation time, with 3.2 seconds Dobson sniped a shot from the top of the circle and caught the far corner of the net sending the mesh back so fast making it 2-1 for the Thunderwolves.  The crowd went wild and Thunderwolves players jumped for joy. The Thunderwolves were determined to win the ultimate prize the Super League Cup 2018-2019 and win it they did! The Men's Hockey Team had a great season in the Georgian Barrie Super League, winning a total of 20 games and using only 6. Awesome end to the season Thunderwolves!
