On Friday, November 16, the Women's Hockey teams competed in their second tournament of the season hosted by Humber College at Westwood Arenas in Etobicoke.
The Women's team started off with a 9:00 am game against the Laurier Brantford Golden Hawks. They jumped on the ice with their tails wagging, and two points scored by Shauna Hynes (#18) and Mikayla Rae (#19) but had to give the first victory of the day to the Golden Hawks. The morning loss did not stop the Thunderwolves from giving 110%, causing them to reign victorious in their second game against the University of Toronto Scarborough Racoons. Thunderwolf Carmen Underwood (#9) scored 2 points, and one each for Kylee Vachon (#12) and Rae (#19) to leave the final score 4-2 for Lakehead. The afternoon consisted of the quarter finals game versus the George Brown Huskies. The women started the game strong as they scored 5 goals in the first period alone! With the final score of 8-0, fourth year Rae (#19) accounted for four of the goals, while first year Hynes (#18) claiming two, and one each for Underwood (#9) and Aimee Tindale (#11). This victory landed the Thunderwolves a spot in the semi finals against the host school themselves: the Humber Hawks. Lakehead gave it their all but the Thunderwolves were unable to come out on top, giving them a fourth place finish in the tournament. Coach T-Bird is proud of #TheGreat8 for their teamwork and endurance in the second tournament of the season.
