Extramural Men's Basketball Team Travel to Mohawk College

The Men's Extramural Basketball team travelled to Hamilton on Friday, February 7 to compete in the Mohawk College OCR Basketball Tournament. They had a short bench with only seven players for a four game day.

They took on the Humber Lakeshore Hawks in their first game of the day with player-coach Peter Scholtes putting up points from outside the three and in the paint early in the game. The Thunderwolves battled hard and kept the game close but the Lakeshore Hawks would prove to be too much to handle in the end. They were defeated by a score of 51-34.

Next, they took on the Centennial Colts in a well played game by both teams. Lakehead battled hard and played a great game but fell short in the end by a score of 39-33.

Their final game of round robin play was against the host team, the Mohawk Mountaineers. The team came out strong against a team with lots of support from the fans. Kurtis Page had a spectacular game putting up 25 points for the Thunderwolves in the 80-58 loss.

Lakehead faced Boréal College in the consolation round. With no subs left due to injury, the five man roster played hard until the end, defeating the Vipères by a score of 57-40. This victory was led by the tenacious play of Kurtis Page and Serge Nkusi.

The Thunderwolves were awarded with the Fair Play Award for the tournament as a result of their excellent sportsmanship shown throughout the day.

Their next tournament will be on Friday, March 6 at Wilfrid Laurier University - Brantford.
