2025 OCR Hockey Regional Champions

Lakehead Orillia Thunderwolves Men's Extramural Hockey Team competed in their regional tournament, hosted by Georgian College, for a chance to move on to the RECCup Championships on March 26 - 27 in Ottawa. 

In game one, the Thunderwolves matched up against Georgian Grizzlies Barrie Campus in the first game of round-robin play. The Thunderwolves got off to a quick start scoring in the first minute of the game to take a 1-0 lead early in the game. The Grizzlies were able to tie the game up, but thanks to a late third-period goal, the Thunderwolves were able to take a hard-fought 2-1 win in game one. 

Game two saw Lakehead Orillia put up a dominant performance against the Georgian Grizzlies Orillia Campus in their final game of round-robin play. The Thunderwolves put up two goals in the first period and never looked back, with a commanding 7-2 win giving them 1st place in round-robin play and gave the Thunderwolves a bye to the finals of the regional. 

The finals saw Lakehead Orillia versus Georgian Barrie matchup again with the winner moving on to the RECCup Championship. Much like everygame against Georgian Barrie this year, this was another nail biter of a game with both teams leaving it all out on the ice. With both teams going back and forth with great chances both teams goalies stood on their heads as neither team could gain the advantage through the first two periods as the game was 0-0 heading into the third period. With both teams taking more and more chances in the third period the goalies needed to play their best to give their team the edge. Thunderwolves goalie Tyler Jackman bailed the team out midway through the third period with an incredible cross-crease save to keep things tied up, leading to the a go-ahead goal for the Thunderwolves a couple minutes later. Lakehead added another empty-net goal for some insurance and secured a 2-0 victory and punching their ticket to the RECCup Championship hosted by Collège La Cité.

This caps off an impressive year for the Men's Extramural Hockey program where they have gone on to win three tournaments, along with a second-place finish, in the 2024-2025 year. The Lakehead Orillia Thunderwolves will be back in action on Wednesday, March 26th at 1:00pm at the Richcraft Sensplex for their first game of the round-robin play.
