Goal for Tonkonog at George Brown Varsity Indoor Soccer Tournament

Goal for Tonkonog at George Brown Varsity Indoor Soccer Tournament
On Thursday, January 30, 2020, the Lakehead University Orillia Thunderwolves Varsity Indoor Soccer team travelled to the Ontario Soccer centre to compete in their second tournament of the season hosted by George Brown College.

The Varsity Men's Indoor Soccer team also played three games in the George Brown Tournament including Georgian College, University of Toronto Mississauga and Wilfrid Laurier University Brantford. Goal scored by sophomore Shane Tonkonog

"In the second tournament [of the season], hosted by George Brown, the group came out eager to attack led by captain Chris Bettencourt and fourth-year midfielder John Mark Merraro. The team played local rival Georgian College to a close defeat, highlighted by a long-distance finish by defender Shane Tonkonog. Although the group missed out on advancing to the tournament semi-finals, the competition allowed Lakehead to establish themselves as an organized and counter-attacking squad with the talent to always be competitive vs. the top teams in the OCAA. The team has one more tournament left for the season, where they'll compete in a regional championship at Seneca in the hopes of earning a birth in the provincial championships. It's been another fantastic year of growth for the young Lakehead Men's soccer program in OCAA competition and the group is looking forward to ending the year on a high note." - Mark Colvin, Head Coach
