Thunderwolves Bid Farewell to Men’s Soccer Coach

Head Coach of the Lakehead Orillia Thunderwolves Men's Indoor Soccer team, Mark Colvin has announced his departure from the program after 3 years with the Thunderwolves. Colvin has been an invaluable asset to the program since he began with the Thunderwolves back in 2019.

Through his time at Lakehead, he has faced unprecedented challenges with grace and fortitude. After the abrupt end to the 2019-2020 season and an extended pause in play, the long-awaited return to play brought with it a roster of almost all brand new players to the team. Mark has continued to bring commitment and energy to the squad, building the team and players in preparation for the season. His focus on student-athlete development and the unwavering care he has for each of his players has been an instrumental facet in the program's ongoing development.

"Mark was only able to be part of the Lakehead community for a short time and was affected through the pandemic but still managed to make a large impact on the team through the style of play and bringing high energy to the team at all trainings and games. We want to wish him all the best on his future endeavours and more importantly a huge thank you for everything he has taught us both on and on [the] field" says graduating team captain, Shane Tonkonog

Mark has also been a mentor in more ways than one. While mentoring his players has been a key part of his role, this past season, he has also been officially mentoring former player, 2020 Thunderwolves alum, Chris Bettencourt. Mark coached Chris though the 2019-2020 season, and within the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) and Coaching Association of Ontario (CAO) Mentorship Program, he has been able to support the streamlined pathway of strong coach development within the Thunderwolves Athletics program and the OCAA.

"Mark is a great leader and continues to be ahead of his time as a Head Coach," notes assistant coach Robin Davies. "Wherever he goes, his success will represent the determination and tenacity he has to be the best as well as bringing the best out of whoever he works with."

His presence will be missed by the Wolves on the pitch next season. "The heart and soul he puts into coaching is next level" says Thunderwolves stiker, Tyler Jackman. "He is the kind of coach that any athlete would die to play for. He pushes you to be your best every time you step foot on the pitch."

The entire Thunderwolves pack thanks Mark for his commitment and expertise that he has brought to the program. We wish Mark the best of luck in his future as he looks to continue his coaching career overseas.

Over the next few months, Lakehead Orillia Athletics will be in search of a new head coach for the 2022-23 season and beyond.
