Thunderwolves Close out 2022 Golf Season on the Battlefield

The Orillia Thunderwolves Varsity Golf Team concluded their 2022-23 season at the OCAA Provincial Golf Championships In Niagara Falls from October 3-5 with their best finish in recent history.

The Championship tournament was hosted by Niagara College at Legends On The Niagara Golf Course and brought teams from 10 universities and colleges across the province with their best student-athletes. The state of the art course was also host to the Niagara Knights Fall Classic, just one week prior, which allowed the team to familiarize themselves with the course ahead of the Championships.

The Thunderwolves finished this year's Championships with a three-day team total of 1026 (+162), finishing 2nd in Division II, just 11 strokes behind the St. Clair Saints. This is a strong improvement to the team's showing at last season's Championships, where Lakehead Orillia finished fourth in the Division II standings with a 1134 total score.

The men's Division I title went to Fanshawe, followed by Humber and Georgian to round out the top three. On the women's side, Humber took the Championship title for the third consecutive season.

Individually, the strongest results through all three days of competition were produced by second year Business Administration major, Noah Collins (Midland, ON). Collins finished the tournament with a three-day total score of 233, a 20 stroke improvement on his score from last season's Championships. Noah has been a force to be reckoned with throughout his entire OCAA career so far. In his rookie year, he was named Thunderwolves Golf MVP, and in this sophomore season, he has consistently been a top athlete, finishing with personal best scores, climbing leaderboards and even picking up OCAA Star of the Week honours.

Second year Education major and 2021 Thunderwolves Golf Rookie of the Year, Jack Beck (Barrie, ON) finished the tournament with a 258, followed closely by Josh Brown (Kilworthy, ON) and Patrick Hayes (Hamilton, ON), who both scored 264. Rounding out the Thunderwolves team, first year golfer Alexander Timpano (Orillia, ON) finished the three-round tournament with a score of 302.

Lakehead Orillia is extremely proud of our entire Varsity Golf team this season and thank Head Coach, Terry Smith for his continued unwavering support and guidance of our Varsity student-athletes and golf program.
